THE GREAT VALUE OF A TEAR SHED DUE TO THE FEAR OF ALLAH TA’ALA
Imām Ahmad رحمه الله has recorded in his Kitābuz Zuhd from Sayyidina Hazim رضي الله عنه that Sayyidina Jibrīl عليه السلام once visited Sayyidina Rasoolullah صلي الله عليه وسلم. There was a person who cried to his fear of Allah Ta’ala. Upon this, Sayyidina Jibrīl عليه السلام said; “Each deed of a human being shall be weighed, but crying due to the fear of Allah Ta’ala and the Aakhirah is such a deed which cannot be weighed. Rather, a single tear (shed in such a manner) shall extinguish even the greatest fire of Jahannum.”
(Ma’ariful Qur’ān 3/533)
Shafeequl Ummah Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Farooq Sahib رحمه الله lamented the fact that the Ummah has forgotten the bounty of tears; Hazrat رحمه الله explained on numerous occasions that a great deficiency in our lives is that we laugh raucously excessively and this causes hard heartedness. Unfortunately, this is not treated as a spiritual malady; therefore the harm is very much greater. Hazrat رحمه الله qualified the point further when he said that the disposition of a Muslim must be cheerful; but we learn how to behave in all circumstances from the blessed teachings of our Beloved Master Sayyidina Rasoolullah صلي الله عليه وسلم. In this is our guidance and protection.
May Allah Ta’ala grant us the tawfeeq to shed tears in the court of Allah Ta’ala and thereby dousing the effects of our disobedience.
