Kitaab Reading, Bayaan, etc after Salaah…
Regarding kitaab reading after Salaah (as it happens in many masaajid, where Ahaadeeth from Kitaabs such as Fazaaile-Aamaal, etc are read) , Hadhrat Mufti Mahmood Saab (Rahmatullah ‘Alaih) said-
“Congregational acts benefit the entire congregation and they all have the opportunity to learn from Talim. Those who perform long rakaats of salaah benefit only themselves.
Therefore if they give preferance to a collective benefit over a personal one, this is of a lofty nature. They should perform their sunnah salah after the farz and then join Talim, after which they are at liberty to perform all the lenghty salah they wish.
If they do not do so, they will be causing a disturbance to the Kitaab Reading. We shoudn’t think that those in the kitaab reading are the ones causing disturbance.
In the time of Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, the musjid was mainly for Farz Salaah, after Farz Salaah, Ta’leem was given first preference. Sahabah RadhiyAllahu anhum used to perform their sunnat salaah at home. Yes, in latter times, to our weakness, the Ulama advise us to perform our Sunnats in the musjid, lest we leave it out upon arriving home. However, we should remember what was the asl (original method) in the time of Sahabah)
( Hazrath Rahimahullah had mentioned this in Rietfontein , South Africa, in a majlis of Ulama, in answer to a question by Haaji Bhai Padia Rahmatullah ‘Alaih) )
